Lonicera periclymenum 'Rhubarb and Custard' Climber

Lonicera periclymenum or Honeysuckle 'Rhubarb and Custard' is a more compact form of honeysuckle climbing plant, ideal for smaller gardens or growing in a pot or container. It gets its name from the colours of its two-tone flowers, which are strongly scented and emerge in shades of pink and creamy yellow. In terms of overall size this honeysuckle is compact, but the flowers are large and impressive, growing in clusters throughout summer against its green foliage. It has a long flowering period, so you can expect to enjoy this Lonicera’s blooms from around June to September. Bees love the flowers, so it’s a great option for attracting pollinating insects to the garden, having received RHS Plants for Pollinators status. It can also produce small, bright red berries in late summer through to autumn.

Hardy and fast-growing, we recommend planting Lonicera periclymenum 'Rhubarb and Custard' against a sturdy climbing support, such a as a trellis or obelisk, in a full sun position for the best blooms, although it will tolerate partial shade as well. It will be happy in most moist well-draining soils and will reach an approximate height and spread of 2 x 1.5 metres in 20 years.
