Magnolia grandiflora Tree

A magnificent evergreen tree, Magnolia grandiflora brings year-round elegance and seasonal drama to the garden. Large, leathery leaves are a glossy dark-green colour on top and have a contrasting bronzed, velvety underside.

This evergreen Magnolia also features spectacular, large, creamy-white flowers in late summer (August/September) that stand out against the dark green foliage. The huge, fragrant flowers are bowl-shaped and have a complex lemon perfume.

Magnolia grandiflora is relatively slow-growing, reaching 5 x 3 metres in 20 years and is ideal as a specimen tree, a bush grown against a wall or planted within a mixed border. A sheltered position is preferred to avoid winter damage to the thick foliage, however, it can be planted in a coastal position where there is little salt spray. Any moist, well-drained soil will suit, even chalk is tolerated, making Magnolia grandiflora suited to most positions.

Due to its evergreen nature and large flowers, Magnolia grandiflora is hugely popular. We offer it in a variety of forms and sizes, ranging from young bushes through to large mature standard trees.

Also known as Bull Bay tree, Southern Magnolia, Laurel Magnolia, Loblolly Magnolia, Magnolia grandiflora Gallisoniensis
